This isn’t your ordinary cold tuna sandwich for lunch. This is our lux sandwich made from shredded tuna, creamy mayo, a mixture of spices, freshly baked bread, and, of course, lots of love. Cliched, eh?
If you read further down, the process involved in making the bread all toasty and crunchy is very easy. All you need to do is place the sandwich on a skillet, press down, and turn on the heat. NO OIL! How healthy is that? The idea of frying the sandwich this way came to us when we thought of french toast and panini sandwiches. French toast required frying the bread, and paninis required pressing down on the sandwhich with pressure. Thus, our sandwich non-oil frying process was born! After the components are combined, this sandwich will be the best one you’ve ever tasted, despite the simplicity of the ingredients.
Not only does tuna work work perfectly for this recipe, but you can also use any other filling. Roasted beef, shredded chicken, eggs, or even Vietnamese ham. Vos papilles gustatives seront absolument être en redemande de ce sandwich!
Makes 2 servings. My Famous Tuna Sandwich
2 slices of Vietnamese bread, banh mi (the baguette should be around 8 inches)
1 cup of shredded canned tuna
5 Tablespoons of mayo
about 2 Tablespoons of powdered garlic
about 1/2 teaspoon of thyme
about 1/2 teaspoon of rosemary
about 1/2 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
4 slices of tomato
a few slices of onion
The tuna filling:
1. The can of tuna should be drained, but save a little extra “juice.”
2. Add 3 T. of mayo and mix the shredded tuna all together.
Take one slice of bread and slather 1 tablespoon of mayo on the sides (1 T of mayo per sandwich). Grab 1/4 cup of the tuna mixture and place it in the bread. Sprinkle some powdered garlic, thyme, rosemary, and Italian seasoning for one serving. 2 slices of tomato and onion would make the sandwich have a little extra oomph.
Place the whole sandwich on the frying pan, (remember, no need for oil!), and press your spatula down. Hard. Flip the sandwich around. Press your spatula down again. Hard. Note: you should press down on each side of the sandwich for about 30 seconds each. Keep doing so until you get your desired crunch level. This makes the whole sandwich nice and just plain delish. Your bread should be all crispy, crusty, and crunchy.
Repeat for another sandwich.
Muah! This sandwich is absolutely fabulous now. It is crunchy, savory, and all the spices weave throughout the sandwich. I hope you enjoy making the sandwiches, stuffing it down your throat, and reading our post. All I have to say is, enjoy!
